What to do in Europe?
February 7, 2009
I think that the most difficult thing about planning a trip is deciding what to see in each city. I have limited time in the cities and I want to get as much as I can out of all of them.
I talked with my travel partner this weekend and we decided where we would go. I won’t tell you all of the places that we plan to see, but I will mention the things I am most excited for.
The thing I am most excited to do is the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg. The Sound of Music has been my favourite movie since I was in grade two. I can’t believe I will be climbing the same hills as Julie Andrews.
The next thing I am really excited for is Auschwitz. I am very interested in history, and I took a Holocaust course in University. After taking that class and learning about the atrocities of the Holocaust, I wanted to learn more. I think that the day we go to Auschwitz will be very emotional, but will also be life changing.
The third thing I am excited for is Santorini in Greece. I have many friends that have been there, and their pictures are gorgeous. The city is beautiful. I know it is a tourist island but I can’t wait to relax on the beach and hike through the city. Who knows? I may even ride a donkey.
Those three things are what I look forward to most. If anyone has any other cool places I should see let me know.
Ciao for now.
I would love to go on a trip like this, it sounds like you will be seeing a lot of sights and I am sure it will be an experience you will never forget. I went to Greece last summer, Athens was really cool, we stayed in a nice hostel that was pretty central to all the sights and there was a ton of young people around. I found that as the long as the place I stayed was clean and had air conditioning I was happy!
I have traveled in few places in Europe (England, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Belgium, Italy, Spain and even Russia for those who consider it is still Europe)… when you live in France it is easier! And my recommendations would definitely be Italy and Spain.
I went to Salzburg! I did not get to go on the sound of music tour, which i was upset about, however the family I was traveling with knew the ins and outs of the city and showed me a lot of the landmarks that are in the movie. My favorite was Mirabelle Garden. Its absolutely beautiful and yes I totally re-enacted the scenes that took place in the movie. I was a ball of excitement the whole day! Austria is such an amazing country, you will love it!
This is so exciting for you!! I’m having the same dilemma’s too! I’m going to New Zealand in mid September for a month to visit my sister and I need to figure out all the spots I want to check out. I also might be stopping in Taiwan on my way back home to visit a friend so I will need to look into where I want to go there too! But luckily I have quite a bit of time before I go!
